Bed Rest is Over! For Now…

Like a vampire I emerged from my lair, pale, squinting at the sun, lurching around the sidewalk, taking deep gulps of fresh air

After a week of bed rest Huzzybee drove me to the hospital for some more tests to determine if I had, indeed, started preterm labor.  His stick driving skills have mildly improved, and although the ride was jerky and filled with swearing and perspiration we got there in one piece.  Once again, Sugar Lump took out baby rage on the fetal monitor, punching and kicking it until the straps started to slip off.  An ultrasound revealed that my cervix decided to lengthen again to 2.9 cm (it was at 2.3 cm the previous week), which means that I am no longer on bed rest, but I am on “limited activity”.  I am allowed three, 30 minute walks a week for exercise and am not to be on my feet all day for any reason.

Huzzybee relinquished the keys to my car and I zoomed off to the highest hill I could find, parked, and spent some time looking at the mountains. Later I set out for a short walk around the block.  The sun was shining brightly as it set over Lake Washington, and like a vampire I emerged from my lair, pale, squinting at the sun, lurching around the sidewalk, taking deep gulps of fresh air. After about 10 minutes my head started spinning and I staggered back to my cave, er…house.  Tomorrow I will venture out again.  I need to build up my strength for free yogurt day at Yogurtland next week!
